Vendrán los alienígenas y tendrán tus ojos
By María Velasco
About the show
A woman reaches middle age having become an emotional pariah on the planet Earth. After using dating and sexting apps and learning words like ghosting and stalking, she believes herself unable to have a new erotic experience. Middle age in a person's life can be as bleak as the Middle Ages. The appearance of a new love can only be compared to a night sighting, the landing of a UFO or an alien encounter. It’s a supernatural event that can restore a woman’s belief in magic.
Performing arts creator María Velasco wrote and directs this play which combines intimate theatre with science fiction. In a text with a distinctly poetic tone−in her unmistakeable, personal style−, Velasco combines different languages on stage ranging from music to dance. Vendrán los alienígenas y tendrán tus ojos employs telescopic precision to explore the limits of desire and of bodies, or rather, fear of losing the safe distance which protects us from one other. It’s a first-person portrait, written with humour, irony and causticity, of the agony of Eros and the politics of emotions in the contemporary world. The experience of beginning a relationship with another can only be likened to an encounter of the third kind.
