De Nao Albet y Marcel Borràs
By Nao Albet & Marcel Borràs
About the show
In the end of 2055, Nao and Marcel meet again after twenty years. Marcel is in hospital. They have diagnosed him with an odd sort of cancer only recently discovered: cancer of the ego. Metastasis has caused it to spread throughout his body. Death seems inevitable. The meeting between the old friends sparks a trip down memory lane through all of their artistic work−past, present and future− which serves as a framework to tell the story of their friendship and the end of their relationship.
Realising that the formula has been used to exhaustion, in De Nao Albet y Marcel Borràs, which premiered in 2023 at the Autumn Festival in Madrid, the talented Catalan creators deal a killing blow to the abused genre of autofiction, seeking a new language to represent them. It’s a journey of self-knowledge which seeks to lay bare the essence of our egos and reflect on the need we have to explain ourselves before saying “goodbye”. As usual, artistic duo Nao Albet and Marcel Borràs have written, perform in and direct a labyrinthine show which aims to become a healing rite and, by extension, a point of no return. It’s a funeral on stage full of intelligence, humour and daring stories within a story.
