Nerium Park
By Josep Maria Miró
About the show
Carlos and Marta, a young couple with a promising future, have just moved to Nerium Park, an isolated residential development over half an hour away from the big city. Months pass, but their much-desired neighbours never arrive. Carlos and Marta realise they have become the sole residents of a development with a pool. Carlos’ work problems and an unexpected, almost ghostly presence intensify the couple's disagreements. Marta starts to think they’re paying too high a price to start a life far from the city.
Playwright Josep Maria Miró presents this tour de force for two actors, directed by Jorge Gonzalo, which has been translated into several languages and performed in some ten countries. The meticulously written play, full of nuances, imagery and silences, is equal parts unsettling and appealing. In Nerium Park, Miró has created a hyper-realistic thriller which draws parallels between the crisis in a couple's relationship and the crisis of an economic system. Twelve scenes−each one corresponding to a month of the year−give us a voyeur-like peek at the dissection of a world collapsing in on itself. The new generations’ hopes for the future are depicted as poisoned sweets which drag us into isolation and self-destruction.
