A la fresca
Written and directed by Pablo Rosal
About the show
In an idyllic country home, corrupted by the inevitable human and family activities, three characters meet thanks to the benefits of getting out for some fresh air. Eusebio, a writer seeking refuge, returns after twenty years to his grandparents’ former country home. There, he meets Matilde, a cook, and Manolo, a builder from the area. Unable to use the house as he had desired, whether because of his family or due to holiday lets, Eusebio plans to build a cottage where he can find inspiration again.
Pablo Rosal, who wrote and directs A la fresca, brings us an intriguing fable about an encounter between three strangers in the form of a conversation. It’s a conversation which, if we pay attention, can create community: a proportionate, miniature community of three which is capable of encompassing all of us. This sparkling production, which is based on the triviality of conversation and words, is put together like a rosary of metaphors whose meanings multiply upon colliding with our minds. Rosal has created a unique dramatic device laden with poetry, a tender story in which the universe works and is still sweet, where we all talk to the neighbour and where something as ordinary as sitting in the fresh air to do nothing at all is celebrated.
